Spring has come once again to The Grainary and even though we haven’t had the best weather lately, things are still very busy and we’ve had lots of new additions to the farm.
Just yesterday we had a new baby highland calf born! He’ll soon be joining Yogi and our pony Frisky in the front field so you may even be able to spot him whilst in the tearooms! If he is as friendly as Yogi he will even come up to the fence to say hello! You may have noticed how much Yogi loves attention especially when he’s posing for the camera!
Lambing season is just about over now and Farmer John has been kept extremely busy during this time bringing lots of new cute little lambs to the farm. There’s so many it’s hard to miss them on a visit to the farm!
We also recently brought 35 hens to the farm and they have started laying lots of eggs for us. We believe in the importance of using local produce in the hotel and tearooms and you can’t get more local than your own farm! When you come to visit you will probably see them wandering around as we don’t believe in caging them up!
Our curly coat pigs are still proving very popular and its no surprise, as they are very unusual to look at! They are still believed to be quite a rare breed in this country. The original Lincolnshire Curly Coat became extinct in the 1970s and the pigs we have now are actually Mangalitsa Pigs, originating from Hungary.
We recently ran a competition to name our 4 new Guinea pigs. We’d like to thank everyone who contributed their ideas and it was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into them. The Guinea pigs are now named Fudge (named by Jack), Rolo (named by Hayley), Poppet (named by Bev) and Peppa (named by Macy). We hope they enjoy their prizes! Look out for new naming competitions in the future. We may even have to hold one for our new calf as we can’t quite decide on a name ourselves!
We are also very happy to announce we have been voted 3rd best hotel in the UK and the 1st in Yorkshire on www.Qype.co.uk. We would like to thank everyone who left a review and for your kind words. Rewards like this make it all worthwhile. Look out for our article in ‘The Yorkshire Post’ coming soon.
We have been very busy over the winter months decorating our rooms and are very happy with the results. The rooms are all individually decorated with flat screen TVs and inbuilt DVD players. We’ve also added comfy tub chairs; in many of the rooms, to relax in after a fun filled day exploring the area and its many attractions.
The tearooms have also had a few new additions including a new Children’s Menu and Cake of the Week. We also still serve all our other delicious home cooked meals and cakes so come and visit us to enjoy these tasty treats whilst looking out across some of the ‘Best views in Yorkshire!’ (As we’ve been told!)
We look forward to seeing you soon,
From John, Lynda and everyone at The Grainary
Open Air Theatre factfile: The cancellation of Ellie Goulding’s concert marks another chapter in the highs and lows of Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre since its official opening by the Queen last year. • Its first gala evening attracted a sell-out 6,500 crowd as opera superstars Dame Kiri te Kanawa and Jose Carreras took to the stage. • The venue also saw huge audiences for an 80s Rewind concert featuring artists including Boy George, Rick Astley and Paul Young. • Sir Elton John will play at the venue next month with tickets for the highly anticipated event selling out in minutes. • However, a comedy roadshow last year starring top national talents such as Jack Whitehall and Reginald D Hunter failed to ignite great interest among fans and a music festival headlined by the Doves and Newton Faulkner also drew poor crowds. • An Extreme Sports Festival, due to include a performance from ska-pop legends Madness was axed after organisers ran into difficulties. Looking for a place to stay for upcoming Elton John gigs, then go to www.grainary.co.uk • And an 70s and 80s extravaganza featuring Eurovision icons Bucks Fizz, ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again and Earth Wind and Fire tribute act Serpentine Fire was another event to fall short of the venue’s 6,500 capacity.
ELTON JOHN BRINGS THE CURTAIN UP ON SCARBOROUGH OPEN AIR THEATRE 2011 EVENTS
With a career spanning five decades, and worldwide album sales in excess of 250 million, Elton John is undoubtedly one of the biggest entertainers in the world. Today it has been announced that he will bring his amazing solo show to the beautiful seaside town of Scarborough, for one special night this summer. The concert at Europe’s largest open air theatre will see Elton play to a crowd of nearly 8,000. This fully reserved seated concert will give lucky fans the opportunity to see Elton perform live for the first time ever in Scarborough, in the relatively intimate setting of the newly revamped Open Air Theatre. Tickets for this show will go on sale on Wednesday 6th April at 9am. The date at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre will be one of just a handful of dates that Elton will perform in the UK this summer, and one of only two solo shows in the UK. The Rocket Man is also undertaking summer dates with his band across Europe. His show will include over two hours of hits from an incredible back catalogue, including such classics as ‘Bennie and The Jets’, ‘Crocodile Rock’ and ‘Your Song’. Looking for a place to stay for the big night. Transport is available from the farm to the gig! Go to our website for more information and to book. Hurry though, we have limited places left
