The cancellation of Ellie Goulding’s concert marks another chapter in the highs and lows of Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre since its official opening by the Queen last year.
• Its first gala evening attracted a sell-out 6,500 crowd as opera superstars Dame Kiri te Kanawa and Jose Carreras took to the stage.
• The venue also saw huge audiences for an 80s Rewind concert featuring artists including Boy George, Rick Astley and Paul Young.
• Sir Elton John will play at the venue next month with tickets for the highly anticipated event selling out in minutes.
• However, a comedy roadshow last year starring top national talents such as Jack Whitehall and Reginald D Hunter failed to ignite great interest among fans and a music festival headlined by the Doves and Newton Faulkner also drew poor crowds.
• An Extreme Sports Festival, due to include a performance from ska-pop legends Madness was axed after organisers ran into difficulties.
